My client is seeking a Research & Development Tax Senior to join their growing Top 100 CPA firm. The successful candidate will have previous experience in either federal taxation & tax compliance or federal & state R&D tax credits.



Position Overview


The R&D Tax Senior will focus on identifying, documenting, and substantiating R&D tax credits and incentives for clients across various industries. This role requires technical tax knowledge combined with an understanding of clients' research and development activities.



Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct interviews with client technical personnel to identify qualifying R&D activities
  • Analyze and document qualifying research expenditures
  • Prepare federal and state R&D tax credit calculations
  • Review technical and financial documentation supporting R&D claims
  • Assist in responding to IRS and state taxing authority inquiries
  • Collaborate with other tax professionals to integrate R&D credits into overall tax planning
  • Train and supervise junior staff members on R&D studies


Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field; CPA preferred
  • 3-5 years of experience in public accounting
  • Experience in federal taxation and tax compliance
  • Knowledge of IRC Section 41 (Research Credit) and related regulations
  • Experience with federal and state R&D tax credits
  • Strong project management and organizational skills
  • Excellent technical writing and documentation abilities
  • Effective communication skills for client interviews and presentations


Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Taxation
  • Background in engineering, computer science, or other technical field
  • Experience in specific industries such as technology, life sciences, or manufacturing
  • Familiarity with IRS audit defense for R&D claims
