Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Auditor with specialized knowledge in not-for-profit organizations to join their public accounting practice. The ideal candidate will lead audit engagements, mentor staff, and serve as a key point of contact for nonprofit clients.
The ideal candidate will be located in a state within the EST time zone.
Required Qualifications
- Active CPA license in good standing
- 5-8 years of progressive public accounting experience with a focus on not-for-profit organizations
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Strong understanding of GAAP and specific nonprofit accounting principles
- Experience with Single Audits (Uniform Guidance) and Form 990 preparation
Primary Responsibilities
Audit Leadership
- Plan and execute comprehensive audit engagements for nonprofit organizations, including risk assessment, audit strategy development, and timeline management
- Lead and supervise audit teams of 2-5 professionals throughout the engagement lifecycle
- Review work papers, financial statements, and audit reports for accuracy and compliance
- Identify and communicate audit findings and recommendations to clients
- Ensure adherence to firm methodology, professional standards, and regulatory requirements
Client Relations
- Serve as primary point of contact for assigned nonprofit clients
- Build and maintain strong client relationships through regular communication and high-quality service delivery
- Present audit findings and recommendations to client management and board members
- Provide technical guidance on accounting and compliance matters
- Identify opportunities for additional services and support practice growth
Team Development
- Mentor and train staff auditors and associates
- Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing feedback
- Facilitate knowledge sharing and best practices within the audit team
- Support recruitment and retention initiatives
Technical Expertise
- Stay current with nonprofit accounting standards, regulations, and industry trends
- Ensure compliance with Single Audit requirements and federal grant regulations
- Review and prepare Form 990s and related state filings
- Implement and maintain quality control procedures
- Contribute to the firm's thought leadership in nonprofit sector
Required Skills
- Advanced knowledge of audit procedures and risk assessment
- Expertise in nonprofit-specific accounting standards and compliance requirements
- Strong project management and organizational abilities
- Excellence in written and verbal communication
- Proficiency in audit software and Microsoft Office suite
