Position Overview
Our client is seeking an experienced Senior Audit Manager to join their growing CPA firm with offices in Rochester and Syracuse, NY. The ideal candidate will lead complex audit engagements, mentor staff, and maintain strong client relationships while ensuring the highest standards of quality and professional service.
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee multiple audit engagements simultaneously, managing all phases from planning through completion
- Develop and execute audit strategies aligned with professional standards and firm methodology
- Supervise, mentor, and evaluate audit teams of 3-8 professionals
- Review work papers, financial statements, and audit reports to ensure compliance with professional standards
- Manage client relationships and serve as primary point of contact for key accounts
- Monitor engagement budgets, billing, and resource allocation
- Identify and pursue business development opportunities
- Provide technical guidance to staff and participate in internal training programs
- Collaborate with partners on complex accounting and auditing issues
- Ensure timely completion of engagements and deliverables
Required Qualifications
- Active CPA license in New York State
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting; Master's degree preferred
- 8+ years of public accounting experience with progressive responsibility in audit services
- Demonstrated experience managing multiple complex audit engagements
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, GAAS, and other relevant professional standards
- Experience with various industries including manufacturing, healthcare, non-profit, and professional services
- Excellent project management and time management skills
- Strong leadership abilities with proven experience developing staff
- Superior written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in audit software, Microsoft Office, and accounting applications
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with employee benefit plan audits
- Knowledge of industry-specific regulations and reporting requirements
- Background in implementing and improving audit methodologies
- Experience with proposal development and client presentations
- Familiarity with data analytics tools and emerging audit technologies
