About The Firm: Our client is a prestigious Top 50 accountancy firm with an excellent reputation for their indirect tax services. Their VAT team works with a diverse portfolio of clients across multiple sectors, including property, retail, financial services, and international trade.

Role Overview: An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced VAT Manager to join their growing indirect tax team in London. The successful candidate will manage complex VAT matters for a varied client portfolio while developing the practice and mentoring junior team members.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead a portfolio of VAT clients across various sectors
  • Provide technical VAT advice on complex transactions and structures
  • Review VAT returns and manage compliance processes
  • Handle HMRC enquiries and develop relationships with tax authorities
  • Lead VAT advisory projects including:
    • International supply chain structuring
    • Partial exemption methods
    • Land and property transactions
    • Brexit-related implications
    • E-commerce and digital services
  • Conduct VAT health checks and due diligence reviews
  • Support partners with proposals and business development activities
  • Mentor and develop junior team members
  • Contribute to the firm's thought leadership and technical updates
  • Manage client relationships and identify additional service opportunities

Technical Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of UK VAT legislation and EU VAT principles
  • Experience with complex partial exemption calculations
  • Understanding of international VAT/GST systems
  • Expertise in land and property VAT rules
  • Knowledge of VAT implications for different business sectors
  • Experience with Making Tax Digital requirements
  • Understanding of customs duties and international trade

Required Experience:

  • Minimum 5-7 years VAT experience
  • Previous experience at manager level
  • CTA/ACA qualification (or equivalent)
  • Experience managing client relationships
  • Strong technical writing skills
  • Project management capabilities
  • Team leadership experience
