Tax Manager

Job Summary:


Our client is a prestigious Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firm based in New York, is seeking an experienced, highly motivated and CPA Licensed Tax Manager to join our clients team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in tax compliance, planning, and advisory services for a diverse client base, including high-net-worth individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts. This role requires exceptional technical expertise, leadership skills, and the ability to manage complex tax engagements while delivering innovative solutions and outstanding client service. The Tax Manager will also play a critical role in mentoring staff, driving firm growth, and ensuring compliance with evolving tax regulations.



Key Responsibilities:



Tax Compliance and Preparation:


  • Oversee the preparation and review of complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates.

  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.

  • Identify and resolve complex tax issues, including discrepancies, audits, and potential risks.

  • Stay current on changes in tax legislation and communicate their impact to clients and staff.


Tax Planning and Advisory:


  • Provide strategic tax planning and consulting services to clients, including tax minimization strategies, entity structuring, and succession planning.

  • Advise clients on the tax implications of business transactions, mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.

  • Develop and implement innovative tax strategies to optimize clients' financial positions.


Client Relationship Management:


  • Serve as a trusted advisor to clients, building and maintaining strong, long-term relationships.

  • Communicate complex tax concepts in a clear and concise manner to clients.

  • Proactively address client inquiries and provide timely, high-quality responses.

  • Identify opportunities to expand services and deepen client engagements.


Team Leadership and Mentorship:


  • Supervise, train, and mentor senior associates, staff, and interns, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.

  • Review and provide constructive feedback on work prepared by team members to ensure quality and accuracy.

  • Delegate tasks effectively and manage team workloads to meet deadlines and client expectations.


Research and Technical Expertise:


  • Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues and provide well-supported conclusions.

  • Utilize advanced tax software and technology tools to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.

  • Prepare technical memoranda, presentations, and reports on tax-related matters.


Business Development:


  • Participate in firm-wide business development initiatives, including networking events, client presentations, and proposal preparation.

  • Identify and pursue opportunities to expand the firm's client base and service offerings.

  • Build and maintain relationships with external stakeholders, including attorneys, financial advisors, and other professionals.


Special Projects:


  • Lead special projects, such as IRS audits, tax controversy matters, and voluntary disclosures.

  • Collaborate with other departments to provide integrated solutions to clients.

  • Contribute to firm-wide initiatives to improve processes, enhance service delivery, and drive growth.


Qualifications:



Education:


  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).

  • Master's degree in Taxation or a related field (preferred).

  • CPA certification (required).


Experience:


  • 6+ years of progressive experience in tax compliance, planning, and advisory services, preferably within a public accounting firm.

  • Demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.

  • Experience managing complex tax engagements for high-net-worth individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts.


Technical Skills:


  • Proficiency in tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, or similar).

  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).


Soft Skills:


  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and presentation skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
