Senior Tax Associate
My client is a leading Certified Public Accounting (CPA) firm based in New York, and they are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Senior Tax Associate to join their dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in tax preparation, planning, and compliance for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and trusts. This role requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple engagements while providing exceptional client service. The Senior Tax Associate will play a key role in mentoring junior staff, ensuring compliance with tax regulations, and delivering innovative tax solutions to our diverse client base.
Key Responsibilities:
Tax Compliance and Preparation:
Prepare and review complex federal, state, and local tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, trusts, and estates.
Ensure accuracy and compliance with all applicable tax laws and regulations.
Identify and resolve tax issues, including discrepancies and potential risks.
Stay updated on changes in tax legislation and advise clients on the impact of new laws.
Tax Planning and Advisory:
Provide strategic tax planning and consulting services to clients, including tax minimization strategies, entity structuring, and succession planning.
Analyze clients' financial situations to identify opportunities for tax savings and efficiencies.
Assist clients with tax implications of business transactions, mergers, acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.
Client Relationship Management:
Serve as a primary point of contact for clients, building and maintaining strong relationships.
Communicate complex tax concepts in a clear and concise manner to clients.
Proactively address client inquiries and provide timely, high-quality responses.
Team Leadership and Mentorship:
Supervise, train, and mentor junior staff members, providing guidance on technical and professional development.
Review work prepared by staff and provide constructive feedback to ensure quality and accuracy.
Foster a collaborative and supportive team environment.
Research and Technical Expertise:
Conduct in-depth research on complex tax issues and provide well-supported conclusions.
Utilize tax software and technology tools to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
Prepare technical memoranda and presentations on tax-related matters.
Special Projects:
Assist with special projects, such as IRS audits, tax controversy matters, and voluntary disclosures.
Participate in firm-wide initiatives to improve processes, enhance service delivery, and drive growth.
Qualifications:
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required).
Master's degree in Taxation or a related field (preferred).
CPA certification (preferred).
Experience:
4+ years of progressive experience in tax preparation and compliance, preferably within a public accounting firm.
Demonstrated expertise in federal, state, and local tax laws and regulations.
Experience with high-net-worth individuals, partnerships, corporations, and trusts.
Technical Skills:
Proficiency in tax software (e.g., CCH Axcess, ProSystem fx, or similar).
Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
Familiarity with accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP, or similar).
Soft Skills:
Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
